BariQ recycles about 1.6 Billion PET bottles per year from Post-consumer PET waste with an annual production capacity of 15,000 Tons of FDA, EFSA, Health Canada, REACH and GRS Compliant Food Grade R-PET Pellets that is used with a range up to 100% in the Food Contact applications, such as Mineral Water PET Bottles, Carbonated Soft Drinks, Sheet and Thermoformed applications and finally in the recycled polyester yarns, using a European state of art Green Technology that delivers a top notch quality with the minimum carbon foot print.

BariQ aims to turn the world green by utilizing the latest technologies and fruitful minds to have a Social, Environmental and Economic Sustainable model that can last for a 100 years. BariQ is adopting a Circular Model

During its 10 years of operation, BariQ managed to close the loop by recycling more than 10 Billion PET Bottle, offsetting approximately 141 KTons of CO2, creating direct and indirect job opportunities across its value chain exporting to Europe and US markets that has been struggling to implement the Circular Economy model for years. As a strategic move towards adopting a Circular Model, BariQ has been importing Post Consumed PET bottles from approved European organizations. The aforementioned move has been attracting big brand owners in the packaging sector to implement their sustainability targets in the MENA region and NWE Europe by investing their valuable resources across different collaborative aspects.

BariQ is complying with UN SDGs

During our 10 years on existence in the European Market, BariQ has been closely monitoring the Global Directions across different regions WRT reducing the consumption of Finite Resources, Climate Change and preserving the Marine Life, and since one of our values is the continuous improvement. BariQ has been complying with most of UN SDGs such as: Clean Water & Sanitation, Decent Work & Economic Growth, Responsible Consumption & Production, Quality Education, Climate Action, Life below, Life on Land and Partnership for Goals.

BariQ Social and Environmental Responsibility

As one of the pillars for Sustainable growth, BariQ has been empowering youth about the added value for recycling to the environment by coordinating field trips and providing awareness sessions to the young children in partnership with schools and NGOS, as well as participating in Nile Cleanups of plastic waste. BariQ has been partnering with Brand owners and environmental institutions for having a Nile without plastic initiatives. In 2020, BariQ role extended to support our partners by establishing a new division for sustainability awareness and training capitalizing on our hands on knowledge and experience. The program is designed for entities targeting alignment between their targets and team. It is tailor made upon the organization sustainability goals in addition to type of knowledge needed to be shared with the employees that will be most relevant and effective towards targeted awareness level and operation efficiency. We believe that increasing the overall awareness will have positive impact on employee engagement and retention as they will understand the cause they are working for and efforts done by their company to impact their lives.

BariQ in Global context

The reflection of these continuous improvement actions helped grant BariQ multiple awards over the years:

• BariQ was represented in the UN global compact report on SDGs as an example for SDG number 15 “Life on Land” for its recycling practices

• A success story of Egypt’s waste companies in the report prepared by GIZ, NSWMP, European commission and Swiss confederation

• A showcase on energy efficiency and water savings by UNIDO and SWITCHMED programs.

• Won the award of pioneer business for sustainable development organized by the Federation of Egyptian Industries and Confederation of Danish Industry for 2 consecutive years in recognition of prioritizing workers health with minimum impact on the environment.

BariQ is the winner of “Plastic Recycling Company of the Year” award 2019

In recognition for BariQ’s activities and effective role in waste management, sustainability and circular economy in the Middle East for 2019, BariQ won the plastic recycling company of the year award at the Middle East Waste & Recycling Awards. BariQ won the award as recognition of excellence in the best business practices according to the global quality standards, and encouraging the exchange of knowledge and innovation. This award is considered as a benchmark for performance, industry recognition and professional credibility. BariQ considers all these aspects as engines of sustainable growth in the region.
