InSinkErator makes Earth day a part of your everyday life

In celebration of Earth Day 2021, InSinkErator, a business unit of Emerson, the world's largest manufacturer of food waste disposers for home and commercial use, offered all tenants of The Sustainable City, Dubai, a gift voucher of AED 250 for their products and solutions. In line with the theme this year for Earth Day – “Restore our Earth”, InSinkErator products and solutions are designed to help people and communities with efficient management of food waste, which one of the core reasons that feeds into climate change[1].

The UN Environment Programme’s Food Waste Index Report 2021 states that nearly 570 million tonnes of food waste occurs at the household level[2]. Thoroughly understanding the importance of reducing food waste and emphasising on community awareness on the subject, InSinkErator trailblazed several commercial and consumer-driven initiatives. One such initiative was partnering with Diamond Developers, the developers of The Sustainable City, Dubai, to equip 589 villas and apartments with the InSinkErator Model 50+, food waste disposers designed to reduce the amount of waste generated by an average family up to 40%.

The Sustainable City achieved 80% recycling of household waste by providing sorting at source and use of other accepted disposal practices.

The InSinkErator Model 50+ has a built-in Air-Switch and an advanced Stainless Steel Grind Chamber that grinds down food waste including small bones. The food waste disposers use approximately 6 liters a day, which is about 1% or less of total water consumption of a household.

To amplify similar efforts this year in alignment with the UAE’s National Food Security Strategy, InSinkErator provided the tenants of The Sustainable City with an opportunity in the form of AED 250 on their products and solutions which they can opt for to make a positive contribution towards restoring and greening Earth to its former glory.

Mohamed Karam Senior Business Development Manager, Middle East & Africa at InSinkErator said, “With effects of climate change growing drastically day by day, it is the need of the hour that everybody plays their part fully and responsibly to revitalize our planet, Earth, and its ecosystem. By launching this initiative amongst the tenants of The Sustainable City, Dubai, we have taken a step towards contributing to the UAE’s National Food Security Strategy meanwhile to implement one of our company causes to deliver sustainable solutions that improve efficiency, reduce emissions and conserve resources.”
