ecowaste-smallWFES EcoWaste is the foremost gathering of leaders, innovators, investors and thinkers who accelerate sustainable development in the waste management industry globally.Held as part of the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) in Abu Dhabi from 14 – 17 January in strategic partnership with Tadweer, WFES EcoWaste is a great platform for companies and innovators to showcase and explore the latest sustainable solutions transforming the waste management industry, and join the dialogue with government and innovative businesses setting new operational standards and challenging attitudes towards recycling in the region. The impact of accelerated human activity and rapid increase of population has contributed to exponential increase in the solid waste produced. The World Bank forecasts that the amount of solid waste produced in the urban areas of GCC will almost double by 2025. The need to minimise and reverse this impact has become a major focus of numerous governments and organisations in GCC and around the world. To further this commitment, GCC countries have signed the COP21 agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the region and have set individual targets to achieve this goal, with one of the key pillars being reducing the amount of solid waste being sent to the landfills. UAE has committed to reducing the solid waste by 75% by 2021, with Abu Dhabi committing to divert 85% of its solid waste from landfills and Dubai aiming to achieve a landmark target of 0% solid waste by 2030. The successful implementation of waste to energy (WTE) initiatives is going to be a major factor in ensuring these targets are met and companies like Bee’ah have already set a benchmark in the region by diverting 70% of waste from landfills to its recycling facilities, says the event organiser. WFES EcoWaste 2019 will showcase disruptive technologies and innovations that drive development in renewable energy and waste management. The four day event will feature forums, workshops, innovation hubs, expos and thought leadership debates that aim to help the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region achieve energy independence and waste reduction. Key business stakeholders and project owners will discuss and explore waste management and recycling solutions at the event, including Tadweer – Abu Dhabi Waste Management Centre, Bee’ah, Dubai Municipality, ADNOC onshore, West Coast Group, and Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC). Tadweer is set to discuss major investment opportunities in their waste management and recycling division, and announce future projects during the event. They will also bring a first of its kind eco-waste art gallery in the Middle East, displaying art made from recycled materials. They will offer visitors a unique opportunity to buy recycled tyres and compost at discounted rates from their stand at WFES, as per the organiser. WFES, part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and hosted by Masdar is touted as the world’s largest sustainability gathering that will explore new ideas, exponential technological innovations, infrastructure challenges, industry insights and digital platforms driving the future of sustainability. The event is a great platform for businesses to forge new partnerships to build successful relationships and help solve global sustainability challenges within the energy, solar, water, mobility and eco-waste sectors.
