West Asian conflict: Key aluminium facilities in the region sustain damage

The UAE's Emirates Global Aluminium plant in KEZAD and Bahrain's Alba facility were subject to Iranian attacks, the companies announced on Saturday on their respective websites.

Emirates Global Aluminium on Saturday ( March 28) announced that the company’s Al Taweelah site sustained significant damage during the Iranian missile and drone attacks at Khalifa Economic Zone Abu Dhabi. Assessment of the damage is ongoing.

A number of EGA employees were injured. None of the injuries are life threatening, it said. 

Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of EGA, said: “The safety and security of our people is our top priority at EGA at all times. We are deeply saddened and are assessing the damage to our facilities.”

EGA’s Al Taweelah smelter produced 1.6 million tonnes of cast metal in 2025. EGA had substantial metal stock on the water when the conflict began, and stock on the ground in some overseas locations.

Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba) confirmed that its facility was subject to an Iranian attack on Saturday 28 March 2026. 

The safety and security of Alba's people remained its top priority, the press statement said. And the Company confirmed that two of Alba’s employees sustained minor injuries. 
Alba is assessing the extent of the damage to its facilities and remained focused on maintaining its operational resilience and the safety of its employees. The Company will provide further updates, as required, in due course, the press statement read.
