CMR Green Technologies (formerly Century Metal Recycling Limited) is one of the largest metal recyclers in the world. Since its inception, it has grown at a CAGR of more than 25 per cent and solidified its position as India’s largest producer of aluminium-based die cast alloy, used by manufacturers of automobiles and their component. Mohan Agarwal, Managing Director, started CMR with a single plant in 2006 which has since grown to 12 plants across India. CMR is the first in the industry to scale up and over the last few years, it has taken its metal recycling capacity to over 4,18,000 MT per annum.
The company has many other firsts to its credit, including transporting molten metal to customers’ plants, instead of the traditional metal ingots. CMR is a pioneer in the molten aluminium segment in India, having commenced supplies since 2008. CMR supplies to the who’s who of the automotive industry in India including major OEMs. Agarwal has partnered with other companies in the aluminium recycling industry to benefit from their experience, reach and technology including joint ventures with two of Japan’s biggest names -Nikkei MC Aluminium and Toyota Tsusho. He has set up facilities in Chennai, Haryana and Gujarat in separate partnerships with these groups. CMR has been procuring metal scrap from over 195 global suppliers as well as from certain domestic suppliers. CMR is constantly looking to diversify and expand. Even when several other industries were playing it safe owing to the pandemic, CMR spread its portfolio further in new locations by establishing various greenfield projects in Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. CMR branched out into production of wrought alloys and recycling of End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV).
