As a student, Nouf Jamal nurtured a dream to work for BEEAH, the region’s leading

sustainability and digital expert. Her dream came true seven years ago, when she joined the organisation’s energy business, BEEAH Energy. “I was fascinated by BEEAH’s achievements in the environmental and waste sector. Today, being an employee at BEEAH has shaped the way I perceive the environment,” she says.

When Nouf joined the team, she was one of the first women in the region to work in the field of waste-to-energy. Nouf holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management and a master’s degree in Executive Business Administration, both from the University of Sharjah.

Nouf has supported and coordinated the establishment of the region’s first waste-to-energy project, which was launched last year by the Emirates Waste to Energy Company, a joint venture between BEEAH and Masdar. “We have faced a lot of challenges along the way, and I gained valuable experience and exposure through this project.”

“The team and I traveled around the world, visiting several power plants to learn more about waste-to-energy technologies, and I remember being the person with the greatest number of questions. When we were constructing the facility, I had the chance to break several gender stereotypes; by engaging in tasks such as those involving entering the furnace and inspecting the boiler grates.”

Nouf is an important member of the BEEAH Energy team, mentoring and training new employees. She is also an avid spokesperson for BEEAH Energy and was appointed

as one of the BEEAH Group Ambassadors.

Speaking about gender representation in the STEM field, she says that women are still a

minority. “We face a lot of biases. People undermine a woman’s ability to do certain tasks or to comprehend certain concepts.” “People must understand men and women are equally capable of achieving great things. It’s very important for women working in STEM to have a nurturing environment. I am thankful to the BEEAH management which has enabled us to excel.”

Nouf is an engineer by day and a video gamer by night! She lives by a famous Latin saying - Sic Pravis Magna, which features in one of her favourite video games. It loosely translates to “Greatness can be achieved from small beginnings.”
