In 15 years, as VP of Finance, Sandy Brooks has helped SA Recycling grow from 17 to 130 locations. She currently leads a team of 28 people. She is a CPA and author, as well as ISRI’s audit chair and incoming West Coast Chapter president.
Why did she choose this industry?
“This field kind of chose me and I actually came close to declining the offer to enter the recycled materials industry. After 15 years, I have not looked back and continue to feel grateful that I am in an industry that makes such a positive impact on our environment,” says Brooks.
Sandy served as co-chair of ISRI’s Women in Recycling (WIR) council throughout the COVID lockdown. According to Sandy, “There have been plenty of hurdles for women as in all male-dominated industries, but let’s focus on the advantages. ISRI and industry leaders have been making an intentional effort to include women in the discussion - as decision-makers, speakers, and experts. Women who are interested in being a part of the history of the recycled materials industry should take advantage of this and step up to get involved. You will be supported!”
