India’s recycling sector is set for significant growth, with projections indicating it could reach a valuation of $3 trillion over the next 20 years, according to Ved Prakash Mishra, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC). As per reports, he was speaking at the 'Global Symposium on Resource Efficiency & Circular Economy,' hosted by the Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy Industry Coalition (RECEIC) in partnership with FICCI and MoEF&CC.

Speaking on the importance of a circular economy, Mishra underscored the need to move away from the conventional "take, make, and dispose" approach. He highlighted that most materials currently produced can be recycled, while those that cannot are often suitable for energy recovery or as alternative fuels.

India has already taken steps towards sustainability through Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations across key industries, including plastics, e-waste, batteries, and used oil. The government is now looking to further expand these initiatives, reinforcing its commitment to a more sustainable and resource-efficient future.
