Abu Dhabi Waste Management Centre (Tadweer) announced it has completed its preparation for the holy month of Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr 2021, covering all sectors of integrated waste management in Abu Dhabi. As part of its comprehensive action plan, the Centre will step up efforts in the areas of municipal solid waste collection and transportation, public hygiene and pest and stray animal control during and after the holy month and Eid Al Fitr.

In view of the current Covid-19 situation, the Centre has allocated a specialized team to serve the Covid-19 screening centres across Abu Dhabi mainland. Furthermore, it has provided enough waste bins to ensure the timely and safe transportation of both medical and general waste in a manner that protects public health and safety and safeguards environment from pollutants and health hazards, as per the statement.

Tadweer teams are preparing to unload 161,862 containers of various sizes on a daily basis from various parts of Abu Dhabi throughout Ramadan 2021. These wastes will be transported to disposal sites prior to their treatment in line with the latest standards. The integrated plan will allow Tadweer to ensure that all types of wastes during Iftaar and Suhour are disposed of in a record time to maintain public health and safety and ensure the Emirate’s aesthetic appeal at all times.

As part of the plan, the Centre has divided its operational areas across Abu Dhabi Emirate into seven sectors to facilitate timely waste collection and transportation using 211 hydraulic compactors and 43 additional equipment to streamline operations in Ramadan. Working around the clock, Tadweer’s 5,085 strong specialized team includes supervisors, drivers, sweepers, and cleaners serving various operational sectors in compliance with stringent precautionary measures in view of the current health crisis.

The team will be deployed across various residential, commercial and industrial areas, along with mosques, government offices, schools, government hospitals and clinics, construction sites of citizen housing projects, roads, streets, walkways, and public parks. Furthermore, the clean-up drive will cover archaeological sites, museums, government-run slaughterhouses, public markets selling vegetables, meat, and fodder, etc., tunnels, bridges, public toilets, farms, ranches, waste collection points, waste bins, ponds and swamps.

For Eid Al Fitr 2021, Tadweer said it is set to allocate emergency field teams to receive and execute service requests from the public. These teams will be on ground to support the operations of government slaughterhouses, parks and public markets. Tadweer’s dedicated team for Eid Al Fitr will be deployed to public areas, prayer grounds, markets and parks in two daily shifts. The 3,739 strong workforce will work for additional hours in line with the UAE labour rules to provide manual street sweeping and litter picking. The team will be supported with 47 additional equipment.
